Friends of the Old Library
Would you like to become a FOOL/FTOL? (Friend Of the Old Library)
We are looking for 50 people to become a Friend of the Old Library in order to help continue to support the charity and the community.
We need 50 special friends to support us and have decided to launch a membership
scheme. We are asking each person to contribute £20 towards this annually starting in December 2025; what a great Christmas present… The money will go towards the continued running costs for the library. For this, you will receive:
- One year membership
- Access to two Members Only events
- 10% off any bar prices at any of the events
- 10% discount on two private bookings (which are to be held within the year’s
membership) - Exclusive VIP pre-booking for events before they go live to the general public.
- The knowing that you’re supporting your local community!
Background
After an extensive refurbishment programme and an initial grant, Stainland Library became
an operational Community Centre. We removed the books, fitted a kitchen, painted and
polished before finally openeing under the name: STAINLAND AND DISTRICT COMMUNITY
CHARITY – more commonly known as The Old Library. We achieved charitable status and
are governed by The Charities Commission, to whom we submit annual accounts to show
accountability for where our money is spent.
To keep the building up and running, there are many financial implications. We are a
completely independent charity, therefore do not receive external financial support; this is
generated through room hire and fundraising events. Balancing the books is not easy and
with the ever increasing rise of bills, we are always exploring ways to generate funds whilst
keeping prices as low as possible. We rely on the hard work and dedication of volunteers.
We do not have a caretaker therefore we take great care in ensuring the room is always left
/ in a good state and rely on users to help us with this.
Will you become a freiend of The old library?
